It’s official, I have a blog and I know how to use it.

I have finally decided to take the plunge and add a blog to my site. I always wanted an easy way to share information with visitors and I’m super excited to start this journey. Keep coming back to my site and check for updates right here on the blog.

How will hypnotherapy be different, I hear you ask. I suppose the main difference is, it tackles weight issues with a different approach. Clients often tell me that they go on diets and lose weight for a while, when they finish dieting the weight comes back on. What has gone wrong? They haven’t changed their old eating habits, they haven’t made the shift into healthy eating. I work with clients in a holistic way. Looking at habits first of all. Habits can be changed. The easiest way to do this is to replace a habit that isn’t working with a new different habit that will work. (It takes on average 21 days to replace a habit). Then together we start to work at a deeper level. If emotional eating is the problem, helping the client to ‘own’ their emotions and deal with them directly rather than turning to food to ‘feed the feeling’.

Where does the hypnosis come in? It’s just a tool and can be used in a number of different ways. To begin with I use hypnosis for suggestion. I encourage clients to record these session to take away with them and reinforce what they have already done in the therapy session. Hypnosis will be used to make suggestions about simple changes that clients can start to make from the first week. In subsequent weeks we will work at a deeper level. Hypnosis will be used to help clients really get in touch with their emotions. Sometimes there can be long repressed feelings that surface in these sessions, it can be powerful and is also cathartic. It helps people to deal with events past once and for all. It may be learning to deal directly with their feelings. I have noticed that many clients with weight problems also struggle with assertiveness.

But its when it seems to control your life it becomes a problem? Sometimes anxiety can be very specific, fears around spiders, travel, injections and so on, seem to be very common. But it can just be a general feeling that something bad is about to happen, with no idea of what that is. This is known as GAD, Generalised Anxiety Disorder.

What is going on here? Well to put it simply, the mind has strayed into the future and dreamed up a whole scenario around “what if the plane crashes” or “it would be terrible if ..............” or any number of anxious possibilities that scare us. The body of course reacts as if this is actually happening, it has no idea that it is just a thought. The fight or flight response has been activated. This is an instinctive ancient response to help us in times of real physical danger. Adrenalin is sent to the body cells ready for the fight or flight of your life. Except of course for most people, there is nowhere to flee and no one to fight.

So what to do about this anxiety problem? Well one solution is to practice using an NLP (neuro Linguistic Programming) calm anchor. I can explain this calming coping technique on the very first appointment. I always give a printout of how to use this so that you can take it away with you to practice and use as required. Hypnosis is an additional tool that can be used to programme your mind to feel calmer in these anxious situations. The hypnotic part of the session can be recorded if you have a MOB or tablet to listen and reinforce your new way of thinking and responding. All of this can help you move to a calmer, happier way of being.

Instead of reading haphazard, uneducated Facebook statuses, it’s much better to see people’s thought process in a well-written blog post.

You can establish a community:
Blogging allows you to connect with other individuals who share the same interests. Sharing ideas and opinions within your community helps establish yourself as a thought leader.

Good for SEO:
Keeping content on your site fresh and relevant, you can use your blog to boost the search engine ranking (SEO) of your site and your business.

It brings people back to your site:

If your blog is strong enough and updated regularly, people will come back looking for more and bring traffic back to your site as well.

It’s free:
It costs you a grand total of zero dollars to post to the blog, so if you have something to say, there’s nothing to stop you.

You can establish yourself as a thought leader:

A blog is a great place for your original thoughts, and it can be a wonderful way to show off your individuality. If people like your ideas, you can become a thought leader in your industry!
